A new National Age Group record was established this weekend at the Thoroughbred Invitational Swim Meet held at the Williamson County Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood. This three day meet, hosted by home team Excel Aquatics, featured 600 swimmers from 14 swim teams in Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky.

Chloe Sutton, a 12 year old who swims for Hoover Blue Thunder in Hoover, Alabama, swam the fastest 1000 yard freestyle race ever by an 11-12 year old girl. Her time of 10:04.22 was over 5 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2003.  Sutton, who has been swimming competitively since the age of seven, also holds National Age Group Records in the 1500 meter and the 800 meter freestyle events in the 11-12 year old division.  She is a seventh grader at Bumpus Middle School in Hoover, Alabama.

When asked about the ability to attract such elite competition to a sporting event in Brentwood, Excel Aquatics Head Coach Mark Walker stated: “we are grateful that the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department has provided the citizens of Williamson County with a state of the art facility to attract athletes such as Chloe Sutton to our swim meets. As the home team, Excel Aquatics is proud to host meets in the finest natatorium in this part of the country.”
